Postural Bodywork

One of the most exciting elements of Dr. Bergstrom’s postural work comes from his extensive experience utilizing Hellerwork. Hellerwork is a powerful system of somatic education and structural bodywork, based on the inseparability of body, mind, and spirit. Following Ida Rolf’s lineage of Structural Integration bodywork, Joseph Heller incorporated movement education, awareness and body-centered human development processes creating Hellerwork. Dr. Bergstrom trained with Joseph Heller in the 1980s as one of his early students. Through the Hellerwork series, the structural balance of your body is realized through the systematic release and reorganization of muscle and connective tissue using a variety of bodywork and awareness techniques. When your body comes into alignment within the field of gravity, chronic pain and tension dissipate. A comfortable sense of support replaces the stress and strain of carrying your body through life. This postural integration encourages you to make the connection between movement and body alignment and restores your body’s natural balance from the inside out. Movement education is incorporated to enhance fluidity and ease of motion as Dr. Bergstrom helps you develop a deeper awareness of your body and its expression in the world.

By observing Posture Dr. Bergstrom feels he is provided a lens into the interaction between the skeleton and the underlying myofascia or connective tissue.

The relationship between the hard, (bone) parts and the soft, (myofascia) parts gives Dr. Bergstrom a viewpoint to see the interplay that displays itself in Posture. Both in motion and when static. The imbalance of these components show where function is inhibited. Dysfunction will eventually result in discomfort. All this is taking place while living in the force field of gravity. When the hard and soft parts find balance the body naturally moves into effortless alignment. Gravity is embraced when the body is vertical along the gravity line. Dr. Bergstrom's 4+ decades of myofascial bodywork combined with his 2+ decades of Chiropractic have lead him to an understanding of how important Posture is to the evaluation of the underlying body structure. That informs the decisions of where Dr. Bergstrom will focus his work.
